Sopa de Arroz Blanco/White Rice

1 taza de arroz
3 cucharadas de aceite
½ cebolla mediana

White Rice
1 c. rice
3 Tbsp. oil
1/2 medium sized onion
1 clove garlic
1 ½ c. cold water
1 tsp. salt
1/2 stick of butter or margarine
1/2 c. milk or water, hot
3 chiles jalapeños (optional)
1/2 c. Jack cheese (optional)

Fry rice in oil until it becomes translucent with onion and garlic. Add cold water (approximately 1½ cups) and remove onion and garlic. Add salt and butter and let it boil for a little while. Then add hot milk or water and let it finish cooking. Before all the liquid has evaporated, add the chiles jalapeños. Once it has finished cooking, remove from fire and add cheese.
